Innocent Lies

by Unseen Exposure   May 25, 2004

I remember the day you told me
Honey, Santa isn't real,
Make-believe only exists in your mind,
As something that you feel.

I remember the night you told me,
Honey the tooth fairy is really me,
I wrote that note on a paper bag,
Just so you'd believe.

I remember the you explained,
She's gone and never coming back,
It's not your fault, don't worry,
The car just sped off track.

I remember the time you preached that,
Pain won't last forever,
And if you pray to God,
You will get through- together.

I remember the time you said,
Katie, it was only a crush,
You didn't really fall in love,
You've mistaken it with lust.

But most of all,
I remember the time you stopped making excuses,
When I told you that I hurt,
All of the sudden you just stopped listening,
And threw me in the dirt,

So now I'm in this on my own,
Broken- but I'll find a way to repair,
I remember the last time you told me,
‘No one said this life was fair!'

Everything that I thought was real ,
You proved to me it wasn't,
What am I supposed to believe in now?
You say, Life will get better.
…But it doesn't.
