Glances

by AllHailTheHeartbreaker   Apr 22, 2008

I am not the reason she changed her hair
or that she chose a jacket today, over the sweater

I am not the reason that her favorite color isn't red
or that the only one she cares about is in her reflection

I am just the reason that her lover steals passing glances
an innocent moment stolen from an innocent victim.

When his world was a stage, mine was a seat
in the audience, about five rows back, and a little to the left

He would sing to me, beautiful songs
and sometimes I sang along

And those songs always made me feel
as though I was alone in his audience.

But she was always backstage
awaiting his return

And then I took the stage
and made it my world

Now I am the star, the one who sings
songs that can break names, shatter hearts.

Sometimes I pick out his face in the audience
five rows back, and a little to the left

I just sing my songs
for every other broken heart

The view is nice, on the brighter side
the second time around always seems easier.

I am the reason that her lover steals passing glances
but I refuse to be a victim anymore

If time does me justice, all I need is another day
another year, another place, another glance, another face.

I am the reason that his world is no longer a stage
as it turns out, I was alone in the audience after all.

This is a great poem, It doesn't seem more of like a love poem, seems more of a sad poem. But it IS very good. The poem sounds more of like a melody. A slow and sad rhythm. You pulled it off, tho!

    Great job!
