No matter how loud i sing it's not loud enough

How many times am i asked
how do you write
i don't know
it just comes to mind
how many times am i asked
how do you play what you play
i don't know
i just like my music that way
now instead you ask
why do you sing
so many things i could say
but why not bother with the truth
i sing because of you

i sing for hope
hope that one day
of being in your arms
i sing for my need
a need of you
protecting me from harm
i sing for expression
so i don't cry
from the rejection

ask me why i lie
even though we both know
i'll tell you the truth
ask me why i care
why i don't want to miss a moment
and want to be there
but most of all
ask me if i really sing

really sing for hope
hope that one day
of being in your arms
really sing for need
a need of you
protecting me from harm
really sing for expression
so i don't cry
from the rejection

rejection from you
i honestly think would be worse
than what i have been through before
before i had nothing to lose
but one slip of the tongue
and i may or may not lose you
may or may not lose my
reason to sing

to sing for hope
hope of one day
of being in your arms
to sing for need
a need of you
protecting me from harm
to sing for expression
so i don't cry
from the rejection

to sing in hopes
that one day you will hear me
eventually
