Gary Soto

by Ashton   May 6, 2008

Gary Soto is not an irk, because
He knows "How Things Work"
He knows how to lurk

From Fresno, California
He wrote about his "California Childhood"
And he was even in the "Iowa Review"

In 1952, a legend was born
A legend whose poems are well worn
From "Facts of Life" and even to "Mission Tire Factory"

From Poetry Collections one through Six,
He is one poet you do not want to miss
Especially if you enjoy "Four Latino Poets" of 1976

Many of his poems set the mood;
Maybe Fernie the dude
Or even the art of food.

Gary Soto's poems are many to treasure
As they are also sure to pleasure.
As to if you will enjoy him, I am sure.

    This start reminds me of a nursery rhyme. It sounds like a start of one.

    "In 1952, a legend was born
    A legend whose poems are well worn
    From "Facts of Life" and even to "Mission Tire Factory""

    Good choice of words, it just flows from one word to the next.

    "From Poetry Collections one through Six,

    Good rhyme scheme.

    "Many of his poems set the mood;
    Maybe Fernie the dude
    Or even the art of food."

    I like how all of the final words rhyme.

    "Gary Soto's poems are many to treasure
    As they are also sure to pleasure.
    As to if you will enjoy him, I am sure. "

    I like your ending it was soft. This should be turned into a song for a nursery rhyme seriously its cute for that kind of poetry :D Good job. You should check out some of my poetry sometime
