Snowy Frontier

by Indian Comma Bean   May 7, 2008

Earthen-scaled liquid rock,
Wasting away moments on the clock.
Tick-tock and the seasons slow,
Halting creation, ceasing to grow.

Rivers freeze in November's breeze,
As the birds depart before it starts.

Roses and tulips slowly wilt
in Winter's grasp; Without guilt,
Mother is merciless to these youth,
Taking their lives in a manner uncouth.

They pray for life; Just one more day,
Unswayed is she with their desperate plea.

Months pass with each frozen tear,
Desolate fields haunt a snowy frontier.
But today is different, as the sun shines down,
For a lonely rose begins to crown.

As the rivers thaw in April awe,
Birds arrive in spring's final strive.
