My Story

by In My Dreams   May 7, 2008

Days are long but nights are longer.
what do you do when the pain hurts so bad,
you can't ignore it?
A life that seems so perfect,
with another story buried so deep.
A daughter so hurt she can no longer weep.
How do you deal when no one understands,
enough to help?

Story starts,
a young girl who seems so happy,
Hides a vicious anger from hurts she doesn't understand.
An older brother who hides her scars.
A temper she learns to control before the age of 8.
A distant mother who plays favoritism,
shouts angry words.
The little girl protects her brother,
she takes all the blame.

Little girl grows up,
anger suppressed behind a staggering depression,
that she hides from the world, with a perfect smile.
She's still protecting her older brother from every blame.

A mother grows more distant,
but pretends to care from time to time.
The bitter girl says she's fine,
Likes to be alone.
She's secretly wishing someone cared,
enough to realize her pain.
She drags blades across her skin,
just to ground herself as her depression swallows her whole.

She's still smiles bright for everyone to see,
While she fights her mind,
She doesn't want life to end.
The pain is strong,
a foe intent on claiming her life.

This is my story.
The story of a girl from a broken home.
The story of "the perfect daughter", so doused in pain.
A mother who worked so hard to provide nice things,
She became so distant, and resentful on her path,
she's losing her kids.
A child so broke inside,
she'll never be okay.

Still to the outside world were as perfect as we could be,
Our family of three,
A mother, a daughter and a son.
