Your Love, So Pure, So True...

by I Seem to be the Heartless   May 8, 2008

In the still of the night
I hear your footsteps,
They're edging nearer.
I turn over in my bed
And face the door.
There you stand -
Your teddy in your arms,
Your face full of fear.

"Can I sleep with you, Mommy?"
You ask, inching towards my bed.
I open up the cover
And watch as you climb in beside me.

The warmth of your body is comforting;
The sound of your breathing, calming.
I run my fingers through your hair
And wonder what my life would be like
Without you in it.
And I realise, that I never want to know.
I want you to be by my side
Until the end of time.

I watch as you drift off to sleep,
Your face as pure and innocent
As an angel,
And I think about all the hardships
We have had to endure,
And I hope that you realise
Just how much I love you.
I hope that you will forgive me
For all the wrong I've done.
And I really hope
That you love me too,
Because a love
As pure as what you give,
Is better than that
Of any man in the world!
