It Was Just Like You

by brie kelly wise   May 9, 2008

It's me and you sitting in the dirt, picking grass
It's me and you behind the dumpsters, skipping class
It's you showing off in the basketball court
It's me thinking foolishly you were the best of my world
It was just like us to ditch church for football games
It was just like us, throwing rocks, talking about our pain

It's me and you on a saturday, drinking at the lake in your truck
It's me and you on a sunday, running through the field, in the mud
It's you singing to my favorite song
It's me, correcting you when you sung wrong
It was just like us to ditch school when the dumpsters were calling
It was just like us to run from home while the stars were falling

It's me and you on a dark night in the quietest part of town
It's me and you laughing that no one was around
It's you promising me you would always stay through this
It's me thinking nothing would come out of this
It's me and you, tearing apart ourselves over this
It's me and you, realizing we never really had this
It's just like you to take a back road home
When everyone watches you and wonders why you're all alone
