Hello, Darkness (My Old Friend)

by I Seem to be the Heartless   May 10, 2008

Hello, Darkness,
My old friend.
I see you've come 'round
To visit again.

What brings you here
And how long will you stay?
Gee, I haven't seen you since,
Well, just the other day!

It seems you must like
Coming to visit me.
And now each time you're gone,
You're all my mind can see.

So dear friend,
Why are you here?
Have you come to warn me
That Love might be near?

Oh, sweet Darkness
I no longer fear Love.
It is like a heavenly blessing
From up above!

You're right,
I know it won't last.
That's what Love does -
Crawls in and runs out, fast.

But I feel this one
In the bottom of my heart.
I don't want to believe
That Love will tear this apart.

OK, my pal,
I guess you win.
You've proven that to love me
Could only be a sin.

No one cares about me,
Hell, they never will!
But why does Love
Have to make me feel this thrill?

Alright, Darkness
My good old friend,
It seems my story
Will now come to an end.

And I know that
Here beside me
Is where
You'll always be.

You'll guide,
You'll haunt.
You'll blind,
You'll taunt.

So take away
My final light
And hold my hand
As I die tonight...
