PINPRICK PROMISES

by katie T Scott   May 14, 2008

Wish upon stars and hope they come true
I wished upon one once, I wished for you
It flickered a little but it never shined
I thought by wishing it'd read my mind

We talked and laughed under the hazy light
Shared secrets into the dead of night
But some of those words were hard to say
The ones that would help me through the day

Why was it so hard after all that time
To say the things that were on our mind?
A tumult of secrets bundled in my head
And suddenly we were dangling by a single thread

Those tricksters swimming in the skies
they entice the naive and tell a thousand lies
I blame them solely, for what could I do?
But hope so much that my wish would come true

Our mouths still move our heads still dream
And all the lights of the night still gleam
And now what's the point of whishing upon stars?
When all they do is break your heart.
