Georgia Lullaby

by Daisy if you do   May 15, 2008

Pass not by the old dirt road
Through covered bridge and oaks now bowed
To Blue Ridge foot a trail of tears
Forgotten lore and pioneers

Pass not by fields of green
Lead unto such placid stream
Where water falls and Kudzu grows
Beside the mount' a Cherokee Rose

Pass not by where rivers run
To catch a glimpse of morning sun
Savannah sands their lonely dune
Atlantic Oceans lovely tune

Pass not by ere roadside crest
Where beneath the stones a princess rest
Eternal youth from waters nourish
Reach gardens where Azaleas flourish

Pass not by ancestral graves
Nor shacks of wood that housed the slaves
Pause a moment ...pass not by
Listen to her lullaby

* This is my tribute to the beautiful state of Georgia.
Full of dirt roads and Live Oaks that bend to paths greeting. Worthy scenic sites that I have mentioned above or made reference to are Blue Ridge Mountains, The Trail of Tears, Savannah and surrounding Islands, Stonepile Gap (A Cherokee pricess buried beneath stones), Callaway Gardens, Andersonville memorial cemetery, Antebellum homes and plantations with shacks that housed slaves.

A fantastic ode to Georgia. I could really feel and see Georgia in my mind when reading this poem. My train passed thru Georgia when I moved from Florida last month. I regret not having the time to explore your colorful, scenic state.
