Blue Heart [Lento]

by Twisted Heart   May 16, 2008

Here lies this heart a broken shell
Mere wounds that make me weep
Where forth a stone that bent the dream
Clear thumps that rob my sleep

Night winds of change come bid me well
Light true the path of pain
Fight hard the hold of love that died
Cried tears that seer through rain

True love that sees my hope to fall
Blue heart, my heart come see
Few words that tempt my soul's reqret
To bleed inside of me.

The Lento is a short form that isn't as easy as it looks. A Lento consists of two quatrains with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe. The second
and fourth lines of each stanza must rhyme.
To take it a step further, try
rhyming the first and third lines as well as the second and fourth lines of each stanza in this
rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd.
The FIRST words of each verse should rhyme....this is the hard part! There is no fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but
keeping a good, flowing rhythm is recommended.

You may add onto the Lento writing a four-verse Lento and call it a Double Lento, or a
six-verse Lento calling it a Triple Lento.

Wow...such a sad poem. Somehow the formed poetry seems to enhance the feeling underneath. Very good job on the form!

    Take care,

This poem was wonderful! I see how hard this type of poem can be to write but you did it so well. I love the idea of a blue heart. 5/5
