I Remember

I remember when we were so in love,
and could not stay away,
And the only thing I could think of
was to see you every day.

Yes I remember all the violins,
And the beautiful butterflies,
When you wrapped me tight under your wings,
And looked straight into my eyes.

And I remember telling you that we
might have a chance together,
And when I thought you would agree,
Your words almost spelled never.

Then I remember saying to myself,
"It's OK, just let it slide",
But I knew it wasn't off the shelf,
When you were all I thought of at night.

I remember cursing you in my mind,
And as stupid as it sounds,
I still thought that you could still be mine,
If I had turned some things around.

And I remember getting wearier,
As I waited for a change,
Over time the memories grew drearier,
And eventually went down the drain.

Then I remember a day when I walked by,
And happened to pass your way,
I caught your eyes and they did not lie,
They showed something real that day.

I remember a look that said you might
have missed me when I was away,
But if you said that we ain't right,
Why do you still look at me that way?
