Dance with Death?

by Armada the Gestalt   May 18, 2008

The King cursed to wither into bone,
The Lady cursed with child forever grown,
And the Ace,
Graceful, enraptured, dancing on grey ashes.

Timeless bells ringing,
Voiceless ghosts singing,
A beat timed by the hammering of hearts,
Stilled to repose as he twirls.

Spin, arrest,
Arch, and twist,
Nothing in life could compare to this,
Empty ecstacy,
Heartless grey bliss,
Death may embrace but he never may kiss.

No darkness, no flash of a scythe,
Just the spin and the waltz, effortlessly lithe,
Reckless abandon, so tightly controlled,
The elegance of a songless black-winged bird.

The chiming of bells sweet as a final breath,
Beckoned away by the calling of death,
One, two, one two, and follow me,
Guide them to the step of a requiem.

Spin, arrest,
Arch, and twist,
Nothing in life could compare to this,
Empty ecstacy,
Heartless grey bliss,
Death may embrace but he never may kiss.

Profound, and unwound, so gently unbound,
Descend to a rest in empty sound,
The whistle of a nightingale,
Or the whisper of a lover.

Eyes open seeing, but by name blind,
Dark eyes lead into a fathomless mind,
Never look into them, never look back,
Rest your aching souls, ladies and gentlemen,
We will take care of you.

Boundless ecstacy,
Limitless bliss,
Death may not claim the one he would kiss.

You are pure poet! :-) I absolutely loved this. It is so profound, and flows perfectly. I love the rhyme, and the repeated stanza (3)(6). You have great titles, too. I love to find poets whose poems all have great titles. Way to go! :) 5/5
