An Abused Child

by Miss Kelly   May 19, 2008

She cries late at night
in school and on her way home
Silently she wishes she could just leave
leave this horrible place and never look back

She cooks and cleans
does exactly what she's told
Goes above and beyond
but for what...

Her father is drunk once again
her eyes widen in fear
Once her father begins to yell
her body begins to quiver harshly

She looks for an escape
but she knows she cannot hide
He'll always find her
no matter where she goes

Suddenly apearing in front of her
the slight breaths she made comes to a halt
His hand raises above him
he calls out loudly

There she lyed, flat on her back
reaching up, she slightly touched her face
She could feel the drops of blood
now running down the side of her pale cheek

Everyday, she does right
Every night, she says her prayers
Every morning, she's there at school on time
Every moment, she wishes to get away

The fear in her eyes, the power in his
The tears running down, she admits defeat
The pain throughout her, the anger and desperation
Her teeth clenched tightly, the sound of his voice echoes

As the days go by quickly, she feels even more trapped
going through the bad and even worse
She believes nothing will ever change
knowingly accepting that she will always be...

Hmm...that's a sad story you've told in your poem. However, I believe in times like these, one needs a savior. God will take care of anyone that comes to Him...I like the sincerity in this poem; definitely coming from experience. 5/5
