Before I was Me

by Danielle   May 22, 2008

Before I was me, you held my hand and guided me
Giving me the wings to set me free
Before I was me, you taught me
The difference between what's right
And what's wrong

Before I took that leap, you held me in your arms
Giving me the strength to go forth in this world
And the courage to stand on my own
Before I took that leap, you gave me the wisdom
To see the potential in me

Before I flew on my own, you whispered words of love
Building the character which makes me, me
And sculpting the woman in me
Before I flew on my own, you taught me to hope
And chase each dream

Before I was me, you held me gently in your arms
Wrapped me closed to your heart
Guiding me
Before I was me, you gave me your love
Turning your baby into a lady
With just the simple promise of love

Before I was just me
It was you and me.
