My Satin Veil

by Cynthia Wang   May 24, 2008

A bright red ribbon floating in the sky
continues to flash in and out of this world.
One minute I can feel it brushing against my lips
so soft, it's like velvet or silk.
As soon as I feel it though,
the harsh, bitter wind reappears
back to torture my Dutch cheeks.
Ripping, roaring, stinging my eyes
salty liquid can't even come out.
Once they attempt to squeeze out
air pressure pushes it back in...
Before that ribbon can disappear once again.
I've got to react
faster than anyone can see
Rapidly, so I can grasp the cold softness
in my stony hands.
Across my eyes I'll fold it
so I can't see.
Across my hands I'll wrap it
so I can't feel.
Across my chest I'll bind my heart
tightly;
Tightly so I can't love anymore.
