The Eyes Of God See: My Heart's Been Gone Too Long

by Soulful Ensemble   May 25, 2008

Its too hard when you're never around
And I have to witness the world go 'round.
What do I do when the water turns brown?
And its the clown who wears the crown.

I see a tourist take the picture of a homeless man who sleeps where he falls,
And the rain goes up instead of down the halls.
The eyes of God are pointing south because they simply can
And the lover can't return calls because hes banned.

A solution comes but nobody wants the plan,
And war breaks out again in 'Nam.
Who will show up to fight this time?
Everyone is busy writing rhymes.

And the seems just crumble with the gentle touch
And the ocean rumbles with the mental clutch
And the young girl with a broken heart looks to find her crutch
But its hard to find love where there's not much.

The polar bear is looking up into the sky
Wondering when the heat will finally die.
And the presidents don't care to send the spies
And the problem isn't fixed but they look high.

The vegetables all rot and die
And the rabbits say goodbye.
The sun keeps burning bright
And tears fall that were never cried.

And I'm waiting for my love to come
She's been gone all day long.
I wonder if I'll see her succumb
To the mighty Devil's song.

And I see Judas sleeping with the devil
In the quiet ruins of this level
Beneath the foggy caves of mellow
That were once loud and alive with bellows.

In there we all sleep tonight
While pretending to be satisfied.
And the lovers are split in half
With the sound of jealous laughs.

The warlord is dead but the war is not
Like a cockroach with no head it lives on.
In two weeks or so it'll start to show
That a headless animal can't grow anymore.

And tonight the tiger sleeps with fishes
And the Virgin Mary washes the dishes.
I'm confused and everyone seems wrong,
What's out of place will not again belong
Because my heart's been gone too long,
And my empty chest's left forlorn
As the last page is simply torn.
