Sin of Pride

by Michael D Nalley   May 26, 2008

The sin of the serpent speaking to deceive
Destroying the innocence of Adam and Eve
The original sin more deadly than most
Strikes its prey to devour its humble host

The snake content with his devilish descent
Spread the viperous venom of discontent
With an evil hiss he spoke and lied
To tempt mankind with the sin of pride

Eat of the fruit you don't have to obey
It will make you like gods some day
Immortal beings need not rot or die
No consequences of the law you defy

With our free will we wish to compete
But the will of God has to be complete
The mysterious Love of the mighty divinity
Would humbly return wholeness in the Trinity

Unity is the plan from which man strayed
The constant law is that a price must be paid
Free will is a gift that cannot be stolen or lost
Yet the seven deadly sins have an ungodly cost
