Battles Fought Over A Crying Country

My history is extensively famous
Known by those who are near and far
Kept inside countless books and minds
But religions argue over my historical truth

I have seen their differences over the years
I've also seen similarities they would deny
For no religion admits to their hypocrisies
I am the keeper of the reality as it was and is

My existence is fact, that's nothing to question
But I've no agreed upon name, as it's so debated
I have been the heat of quarrels great and minute
I am a routed cause of immense terrors in mankind

Think carefully please, for it's no small matter
Am I the actual motive that leads you to battle?
Or is the fighting inevitable regardless of my presence?
Only humans can answer such a complex question

Please, think about what I have said
For I, Israel or Palestine, don't wish to be dead
Your wars ruin me each time they are fought
It hurts to see mankind die without lessons taught

I am ancient as all lands are
Fought over since the beginning
Too many wars waged atop my soil
Blood of men absorbed time and again
