Fighting Boredom

by claire   May 30, 2008

I used to pray for things like grades
Like fun, and looks, and friends
Now I just want some meaning
A way to be worthwhile

I want to be full of emotion
True pain, and love, anger and courage
Not self-conciousness
Nothing triggered by a number on a scale
Or a piece of paper

I want to be moved, swept away
I'm walking, straight ahead, on my own two feet
I'd rather die, fighting my hardest
Than live, doing well
But fighting nothing
But myself
And boredom

    I ADORE this!!

the title, "Fighting Boredom" suggested to me at first that this poem would sound like a frustrated teenager screaming into her pillow about all the wrongs in her life, but instead you really surprised me! It contains the famous X-factor that really made me sit back and let the words ring in my head and really made me think about my life and how it's gone so far. I wanted to go out on adventures and such and experience things in a whole new perspective.

This poem also worked extremely well as a song, it had a beat to it when I read it in my head so I picked up my guitar and had a go at it.

    Beautiful poem, Claire! Amazing!
