How A Relationship Should Be

by David ODonnell   May 30, 2008

Although it's hard he bares his soul,
To the girl who holds his heart.
In the pub he sits and recites his life,
From depression to love that starts.

A tear begins to grace his cheek,
As he looks into your eyes,
His opened his soul with alcohol,
What you see behind disguise.

His hurting now and needs your love,
As he gazes upon the floor.
You never knew so much about him,
At least not so much before.

You walk him home and see him through,
The door you'll never forget.
He shows you more about his life,
Now you see why his so upset.

He shows you pictures and songs of you,
At first he is quite shy.
He makes his point so hard to miss,
That he could be your guy.

You start to yawn and yearn some rest,
As its been an emotional day.
He wraps his arms around you tight,
So you won't float away.

You lay in bed and feel his warmth,
The love that has begun.
As he sleeps beside you gracefully
You think, could he be the one.

It's been a while since you've started to date,
And his still by your loving side.
He showers you in love and gifts,
With everything he can provide.

All you want is his love and respect,
And he gives it to you untold.
The love he displays to you each day,
Is worth it's weight in gold.

Okay, he moans when you hold his hand,
But thats only when it's sweaty.
It's nothing bad to argue about,
Because it's just so petty.

He rings your phone so late at night,
What a suprise his drunk again.
But all he wants is your loving touch,
As he tries so hard to explain.

When you sleep at his, you wake to find,
A space where he should be.
But his downstairs making breakfast for you,
Wondering if you want coffee or tea.

He cares alot to worry about you,
Even when you're alone.
If you say you're call him in midday,
He'll wait beside the phone.

Your having doubts and so is he,
As he believes his done all he can.
He tried his very best with you,
But he failed you as your man.

So now it's over and you move on,
And he tell's you it's for the best.
He lies between his teeth for you,
Not showing you his depressed.

His desperate for you to forgive and forget,
If not learn and live on.
His scared that you will find another,
And eventually move on.

He doesn't want you to be unhappy,
Or to be with another guy.
Every day he wants you back,
To give it another try.

His made mistakes and said bad things,
But he could of done far worse.
Each time he makes you cry or sad,
He feels he should be cursed.

He sees you now and then and thinks,
Does she feel the way I do.
He knows his timing is the worst,
But he does it because he loves you.

You make him smile and keep him sane,
You've really changed his life.
He knows if you were serious enough,
He'd ask you to be his wife.

He wrote this poem for you to see,
Even if you say no.
That he will be forever in love
Never letting you go.

This is an amazing poem and if everybody who reads it is not touched then soemthing is wrong with them. It shows such deep emotion and pain, which makes it one of your best poems.

-He rings your phone so late at night,
What a suprise his drunk again.
But all he wants is your loving touch,
As he tries so hard to explain.-

I love this verse as it has me written all over...just switch the gender around. I drink to have the courage to say how I feel and love the way you wrote it.

-So now it's over and you move on,
And he tell's you it's for the best.
He lies between his teeth for you,
    Not showing you his depressed.-

This is also one I can relate to....You want the best for the other person so you hide your real feelings.

    Very well written. Loved it!
