A Matter of Degree

by Corinne   May 30, 2008

Just writing about my hometown. I recorded quickie demo of the song here:

I've since changed the words a little and will be doing a fully arranged recording soon.

A Matter of Degree
Copyright Corinne Curcio April 27, 2008

V1
Oil slick rainbows on asphalt streets
But no pot of gold waits at the end
Unless you're sure you can't ignore
An enemy or a friend

V2
Abdul's drivin' his cab down the highway
With Walt Whitman sitting in the back
A Red Tailed Hawk flies over Prospect Park
While Hassidim are fashionable in black

Chorus
Brooklyn, City of Churches
Where saints and sinners agree
A strong conviction
Is a benediction
It's all a matter of degree

V3
Mermaids wandering on Surf Avenue
Can't find their way back home
'Cause Steeplechase, The Funny Place
Was torn down ages ago

V4
Gypsy women call from bodegas
"Give us money and change your luck"
Or enter h*ll at the Galaxy Motel
Where crack whor*s will bl*w you for a buck

Chorus
Brooklyn, City of Dreams
Where losers and winners decree
A bad-as$ attitude's
Not considered rude
It's all a matter of degree

Bridge
Hopscotch girls and skateboard boys
Are forever in an ever changing neighborhood
Culture and crime, if you fall or you climb
You learn to take the bad with the good

    Hi Corinne,

A very interesting read indeed. I lived in a very big city for years and this kinda reminds me of it. I suppose all big towns are the same, no matter where you go...
Nice to meet you/ read you:)

    Take care,

    Ingrid
ps: just like Anna's mine has no sound either, my 18 year old son had a brilliant idea a while back to install a trial version of Windows Vista. The sound is lost forever:(
