Casting out demons

by Michael D Nalley   Jun 1, 2008

Life is like a Labyrinth with many twist and turns,
Or climbing a spiral staircase where the passion burns
Whether we are ascending, or on a confussing path
We must keep our heart pure, to avoid the demon wrath

The demons find no doubt many places they can hide
Mortal man can not see when they are blinded by pride
Many times I have envied those that can see with ease
They live inside of most of us like a dangerous disease

We may eat and drink without giving gluttony a thought
There are those who desire wealth, as if salvation can be bought
When we want to posses lavishly more that we really need
We are under the influence of the mammon demon greed

A spiritual sloth can mesmerize us all into a false security
As if we do not need divine grace to cling to our purity
When we think we are safe, in sneaks the demon lust
Then that which was intrinsically pure ends in disgust

No matter how we may protest, scream, and shout
There is only one power that can cast them out
It is the Greatest Power that helps us rise above
The demons have no power over grace and Love

    Another wonderful and beautiful poem.
I love the great words you use that make
the poem more interesting and more
    readable. Once again, flawless.

Verryy good. there is a lot of imagery and meaning to it. sometimes i felt like it was too wordy or complex, but i just like simplicity, so nothing personal. overall 5/5 =]

Omg, this is beautiful! I loved that you included the 7 deadly sins. I find them fascinating for some reason. This poem is very true on so many levels and it can apply to all different kinds of people. Keep up the good work! 5/5
