Poignant Sole

by Lauren   Jun 2, 2008

A boy I know sits next to me,
Though he's there I never see,
The skin is shown, our size is seen,
What would happen if we were not,
granted the gift of eyesight?

What if one day we became,
So transparent you could look within.
Would the judging stop, or would we be,
Judged by something else you can not see.

Like I do the boy next to me,
We go through life by what we see.
When you lose something prime,
Your body compensates, I envy the blind.

As the bell rings at the end of class,
The boy stands up and gets out fast.
He doesn't realize what he's left,
A piece of paper with his chicken scratch.

As I read I start to see,
The poignant sole that lies beneath.
And that the boy who sat next to me,
Mis judged yet again, not a boy but a man.

I really like this. I think in our world we do misjudge just about everything.

"Your body compensates, I envy the blind."
^^My favorite line. I think it holds so much emotion and such a big story with so few words.

I like your vocabulary choice. It was just right -- somewhere between complex and simple.
