I Have Yet to Live

by CalGirl   Jun 5, 2008

I lived inside a closed cocoon,
all wrapped up, cozy and warm.
I have yet to live and fly outside,
experience the danger, the harm.

Day by day, my cocoon gets bigger,
expanding my worldly views.
But it feels like my cocoon is getting smaller,
my naivety's on a fuse.

I am in touch with the problems of this world,
now that I have grown out of my cocoon.
I know why people feel anger and grief,
and why people feel lonely, like the moon.

I have grown so much since you left me,
me and my cocoon.
But for that I've grown and I've become
a butterfly in full bloom.

Soph, this is absolutely stunning. When poets look through their old work they actually can see how they've grown as people, and this poem shows that. I know when I look back to even a few months ago, I can see how I've grown and broken free. So it's wonderful to see that you can reflect on your own growth. You ARE a lovely butterfly, hon, so don't you ever forget that. We've both changed so much since fourth and fifth grade. We're very different people. But it's wonderful to look back and see.

The first stanza was definitely my favorite. A wonderful, strong start. ^.^

    Great job, hon.
