A letter to Ben

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   Jun 5, 2008

A letter to Ben
I recently was asked why I live my life as I do
So this is for Ben, and for anyone else who might be interested too
Some things I do because I'm a passionate man
And some things I do just because I can

So I don't own a mansion up on the hill
But I've got relative freedom to come and go as I will
Often there's not really any money to spare
So if I take you to lunch it's still a luxury I share

I ride a bike and seldom drive a car
I wear jeans and black leather and look at a suit from afar
I don't like to conform; I've a mind of my own
So I do things differently or so I've been told

I want, is what life has become
Instant satisfaction & gratification, and your will is done
My point is, something's are just worth doing slowly, or waiting for
Like making love to my wife or waiting for a new scoot to come through the door

I don't always comply with the laws of the man
As a matter of fact, I'll try and screw him, every chance that I can
And If I must choose between helping a friend & making some money
Come over here and let's get on with it sonny

As you've come to see my interests are pretty diverse
Obsequious I'm not, sometimes well mannered and sometimes perverse
No time for convoluted airs and graces, like some of my family have
Because I've discovered arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand

So in conclusion Ben my ability to think and to do are not badly hampered
But my looks and my size
Scary, and stupid as mud, are Quotes that come to mind
So yes I love my life and I like who I am
I like to think I'm a content and happy man
Grant

Its great that you are proud of who you are, so many people are like clones and try to be like everyone else and its great when you read a poem like that and realize that there are still real people in this world who are themselves, well done!
