THE CLOCK IS TICKING

by Michelle Schmidt   Jun 5, 2008

People moving fast as lightening today
Even our children grow up too soon; no time to play
Pressure for our kids to achieve to advance, this is their chance
A mirror of presence in absent mindset of their parents

Parents working overtime to create a better life
Thinking of tomorrow, present tense not on their minds
Drug abuse, sex and disorders of our kids
An all time high, ever thought why this is?

What ever happened to the good old days?
Where families sit down to dinner, this was the way
America indeed advanced technology wise
This has led to our family structures demise

No time to notice nature or experience silence
When we cannot even think or live in the present tense
Neighbors living side by side knowing not the other
No time to create friendships, why bother?

Work, errands and cleaning a duty
Fun and distraction we find non-deserving
So we expect and demand the same from our children
Parents telling yet never there to listen

Realize what you have, not what is missing
You are here for a purpose, so stop guessing
Technology, cell phones has made the world smaller
Smaller I would agree, yet not smarter

Stupid and foolish we spend precious time
Emails, faxes, internet so much on our minds
Before T.V., cars, computers and technology
We actually involved our time with family activities

Family teaching, coaching and communication
Absent and forgotten in this great nation
Can we really be so selfish and greedy?
That we wont give our last dollar to one so needy

Slow down, relax, take a break and breathe
Realize in life its not all thats its cracked up to be
Ever heard of a word called balance?
Appling this technique is your only chance

Live for the moment; not the day
Changes are certain, fear optional they say
Why do you think divorce is at an all time high?
Selfishness, greed and ambition make us blind

Our nation now has a 62% obesity rate
Laziness taken over our lives, what a shame
I constantly hear the guilt expressed by parents
Why are you complaining if you are not willing to fix it?

Insanity defined by expecting a different result
When you continue to do the same thing over and over
You are not at fault!

When will you realize true importance in life?
Your family is your success, stay true to your wife
We are taken over by anger, rage, gossip and lies
Societys exectations causing us to close our eyes

Are you awake or living with your eyes wide shut?
Sleepwalking through life you simply forgot
Its simple not knowing who you actually are
Spending time with strangers at the local bar

Drinking after work just to relax and unwind
Yet your family is missing your precious time
Set your standards high and do not alter
Step-by-step the path of life you walk farther

Knowledge is not what you learn from a book
Experiences and mistakes help you grow and take a closer look
Talking and taking walks together as a family
Work, computers, playing video games

We have lost our focus, what a shame
Needing to get back to a simple life, do not blame
In the end we look back and what will we see?
Disappointed our priorities were not achieved

Wasted precious time trying to get ahead
Regrets and sadness we feel on our deathbed
Just think if you only one day to live
Would you spend it working and getting ahead?

No you wouldnt, you would live with excitement
What are you waiting for? Change is a commitment
Give your energy, time and love to your family
It should not be considered a duty

Would you ever be willing to give your last dollar?
To someone needing more; giving will take you farther
You reap what you sow the saying goes
You continue to stumble, tripping over you toes

Get your priorities back in line right away
Because tomorrow might just be too late
