Hooks

by Savannah   Jun 7, 2008

Two grappling hooks attach themselves to the delicate piece of glass he holds so dearly to her chest. Both begin to rip and pull at the fragile finding. Each trying to take it for himself. Cracks form on the porcelain surface; slowly it shatters. Both look at their new awards, but find only fragments. Suddenly each knows not just they were after her keep sake. They leave the jagged edges for her, abruptly losing interest. Picking up the shards, she tries to reassemble the mangled bits. Cuts, scrapes, gashes, wounds cover her: fingertips to elbows. Not even she can fix her own broken heart.
