Against the Night

by Emily   Jun 8, 2008

Yes, I know how it is to sob in the night,
To curl up and shiver, too weary to fight,
Cold whelms over, a vicious tide,
Feeling so desperate to flee, to hide!
Trapped and lost, in silence I cried.
Yes, I know what it is to sob in the night,
Defeated, crushed, and broken, from the fight.

Yes, I have viewed and shared in humanities plight,
The sorrow, the pain, the freezing fright,
Hopeless chaos, cry of the insane,
The heart-wrenching moans of those in pain,
Such is our legacy, children of Cain.
I've seen it as it is, humanities plight,
Such sorrow, such pain, such crushing fright.

But have you felt what it is to be cleansed in light?
The fear has receded in the force of delight,
For God, with one sacrificial deed,
From Night's enslavement, I was freed!
Now light has become my hope, my creed.
Come! Feel what it is to be cleansed with light!
Sing in joyful defiance against the Night.
