Only Time Will Tell

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Jun 10, 2008

Time may tell the Keeper's lie
and time may tell the truth.
Time may take from or supply.
It knows no aged or youth.

Time may love and time may hate.
Time may heal or even break.
It may come early or late.
Ease the sleeping or force wake.

Feeling, numbing, soothing, pain.
Laughing, crying, living, dying.
It drives you crazy or sane.
Standing still or quickly flying.

It follows you or leaves you behind.
Always ticking right on time.
Fades to nothing or stays to remind.
It knows no reason or rhyme.

Time may kill or may revive.
Watching us while on the wall.
Wish to die or be alive.
Waiting for us to recall.

An enjoyable read with a working rhyme . You told well the myriad aspects of that simple item we all must yield to, time.
Your rhythm went off a bit in the third and fourth stanzas for some reason. The repitition of the conjunction "or" for some reason was irritable to me causing me to reread some lines( aged perhaps)

"Time may tell the Keeper's lie"

I love this line, its a good opening. Its really original and flows beautifully. Just had to put that on its own because just started reading it and that line drew me in, i loved it.

"Time may tell the Keeper's lie
and time may tell the truth.
Time may take from or supply.
It knows no aged or youth."

The way you show time is true, it can change, we do have a lot of "time" so anything can change within it. Your really showing the importance of time, not so sure if thats the word to use but basically what I mean is, your really showing how time actually does change everything, and as time in its own is powerful it doesn't know more than it has. " It knows no aged or youth"

"Time may love and time may hate.
Time may heal or even break."

The flow of this was very well written, the rhyme scheme is good, and I liked how you kept using the word time. I think that it made this part of the stanza flow even more.

"Ease the sleeping or force wake."

This is also a favorite line of mine in this poem. Its original again, and shows very much how unpredictable time can be.

    "Feeling, numbing, soothing, pain.
    Laughing, crying, living, dying.
It drives you crazy or sane.
    Standing still or quickly flying."

I like your use of adjectives, so many used which creates another clear picture of how time can be, it sounds like time can have mood-swings with all the times that time can change.

    "Always ticking right on time."

Smart! I loved how your using "Tick tock" in a way describing a clock in comparison to time, its obvious to use that since this is about time but you never overused it like some poets could. You said it subtle which was great.

"Time may kill or may revive.
Watching us while on the wall.
Wish to die or be alive.
Waiting for us to recall. "

This was great, your describing time as if it was a person, just watching you where ever you may go. Its always there. You can't ever leave it, but it can leave you. Its like a shadow, its not always there but if you wait it will come. depending on the light that is but anyways, it can come and go. This was a very good poem about time, this can brighten up peoples views on how time really can change, as i said "Mood swings"
