A Train Wreck Ballet

by Alter Ego For Rent   Jun 10, 2008

All sidewalks all lead to the sea
where, eventually, one day, we're all going to be.

i turned to you, eyes spinning, and said,
"if i died tomorrow, would you remember my name? would you remember my tears?
would your eyes bleed from the pain?
from the pain of losing me in a train wreck ballet, would you curl up in horror and remain that way?"

you told me not to speak like that, that we would always be together, that we would survive in the sky.
you told me not to speak like that.
that i would never die.

but today, in my wreckage, as I'm floating above the smoke and the fears, even the damned have to wonder what the real answer was, buried deep in your eyes.

yes, even the ghosts of envy and deep seated hate have questions to ask,

if i were alive today, would you still want me back?
