A different kind of Vietnam

by Ares   Jun 11, 2008

In the darkness I remember,
I fought with a pretender,
in the cold, so cold.

smoke came out from nowhere,
I felt a fear too real to recall,
I took the fall.

if you support this,
won't you lend a hand?

we shot against the power,
they crashed in to a tower,
for a cause, expect applause.

I used to be a father,
with a wife and kids at home,
so long, it's been too long.

do you support this,
or do you think it's wrong?

my first name doesn't matter,
because all my dreams will shatter,
in to noise, white noise.

if you're against this,
won't you bring me home?

I left my love back in the USA,
while I fought in Iraq,
now has come my final day,
so if you're against this,
please bring me home.

This is such a great poem! I wish I could steal it and use it at a poetry slam! Of course, I'm a girl so it wouldn't quite work :P But I love the emotions here, the political blow, the obvious solutions it represents...the feelings (haha, already said emotions :P) It resonates discontent and urges you to do something about it. The title really adds, beautiful.

=> YES, the last stanza was brilliant. People who support war should be sent to fight in one. A great attitude changes happens..

    we shot against the power,

    => *cold laugh*...yes, expect applause..

I used to be a father,

=> Yes, people used to be something...but in war, our identity change, fathers become
    shoulder...killers..

    my first name doesn't matter,
because all my dreams will shatter,
    in to noise, white noise.

=> These could be words of any shoulders somewhere in Iraq etc... Bring the soldiers home...
