The American Way

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Jun 15, 2008

You tell me we are fightin' a war.
What exactly are we fightin' for?
Show me how we're fighting for how they're represented
instead of simply killing because we're dissented.

I don't like to see the good and young die.
Especially since we don't all know why.
Let's face it, it's not peace if we have to kill.
We're forcing things on them against their own will.

Let's take a step back and survey the body count.
Were we really hoping for killing this amount?
Is it really freedom or an excuse to destroy?
Are we killing for good or is it just a decoy?

Red, white, and blue. Bang bang bang.
We're just a giant street gang.
Pick on other countries if we don't like them,
while all the rest of us refuse to condemn.

Dissent: a difference of opinion

The first time I wrote an unpatriotic poem someone was so kind as to be so offended that they felt the need to report me, so MY poem, MY beliefs, MY freedom of speech, would be deleted. So I'd like to thank that girl for being so open and understanding of my rights instead of being an immature girl that can't accept other people's opinions (sarcasm to the max of course). If you don't like it, suck it up. I have rights.

-Right from the start. This poem reminds me of Daryl Worley's song.. "Have you Forgotten?" Such a wonderful song. I recommend you listen, if you haven't.

    -I agree with this statement.

-Wow. I love this poem a lot. I agree with all your thoughts and everything. I really think that we should take a look at how many soldiers have been killed as well. There have been so many killed, and yet we keep fighting? Why?

I've gotta say, I agree completely with your poem. We all have our opinions, and I'm glad you stated these things, because I couldn't agree more with your thoughts. I don't really think that we're goign anywhere in the war today, but yet.. we keep fighting, but we aren't making any peace with anyone .. are we? It's almost pointless, in my opinion. But, war is war. and war can be bloody and many people die. and it seems to go on for years.. hmm.. nice work hun, i love this poem because you state your views, and nobody can take that away from you. great work. <3 5/5
