The girl I used to be

by CaptainTyingKnots   Jun 17, 2008

I look into the mirror
And am confronted by a stranger
She's staring at me intently
But I can't hold her gaze
So I turn and look away
Before I see her start to cry
I don't want to see the pain
I don't want to see the hate

I look into the mirror
I don't recognize who I see
But she's staring at me
And I can't look her in the eye
Afraid that I might find
The girl I used to be

I look into the mirror
But turn away quickly
Cause I see her staring at me
Her eyes begging for help
Her eyes begging to be with him again
But I am even more afraid
Of the things I cannot see
Like her broken little heart
That you tore apart

I look into the mirror
I'm confronted by a stranger
I don't recognize who I see
So I turn away quickly
Afraid that I might see
The girl that used to be me

I love this poem .. It's so easy to relate to and so painfully true . I love the flow and the repetition of the one stanza .. It makes it lyrical . I'm voting this poem for the weekly contest : ) .
