The dream we call life

by Inocente   Jun 17, 2008

Life is like a dream
We sleep, and we live
So who is to say it's not the same
Life passes by in a rush
A first kiss, sweet and pure
Next thing you know, you break up
Never kissing like that again
We study and we waste
more time reading and sitting in the same class never truly listening
We cry, we hate, life comes crashing down again
Someone has died and we still don't slow down
We play and party wasting our time forgetting.
Forgetting what has happened
and what is yet to come.
It doesn't work we still remember the next day.
We slow down some and look around
to find ourselves alone in our prime
no purpose now, only work
We look around harder than ever
Finally the dream stops as you look at her face
But stopping the dream has consequences
It angers the dream so the dream moves faster
Next thing you know, you're married
Time goes faster and you start getting scared
You hit 70, the dream slows down
All you know is life passed you by
You never accomplish everything
You decide to teach the young ones what you wished you knew at their age
They're nodding their heads but aren't really listening
Then after a while, the dream stops
Tears of joy, tears of grief, tears of regret
The walls come crashing down
No one ever sees this because
All they can see is this blank, gray look
When they see your eyes
You awoke from the dream and left them behind....

What an honest, raw poem. It is a sad poem. The truth in it is the saddest of all.
