Home Frount

Christmas is here Christmas is here,
The snow is white,
The children are happy,
Daddy is coming home today,
I am happy as can be nothing can go wrong on such a great day,
I made a gingerbread house for you,
I even put frosting around for the snow,
I know it must be hot where you were at,
But now you are coming home,
I am growing up I am 6 years old now,
We can play outside later today,
We can have a snowball fight,
We can even make a snow man,
I can't wait for daddy to come home,
Look mommy it's a truck!
No wait it's a jeep!
Quickly mommy get your boots on daddy is home!
Daddy, Daddy, Da... You're not my Daddy,
Mommy who are these other people,
Mommy there are 3 people outside but none of them are Daddy,
They dress like Daddy but they don't look like him,
They stand up strait like him, but its not him,
They are tall like him, but its not him,
They are frowning while one cries,
Mr. Mr. why are you crying,
You don't have to cry Daddy is coming home today,
He asks me where mommy is at I show them to her,
She tells me to go outside and play,
I do as I am told I will make Daddy a big snow man,
And it will look just like him,
I hear a scream from mommy,
I hear her crying she screams some more,
She says why while she cries,
I run back inside she is on the couch weeping,
I walk up to her mommy why are you crying,
The tall men say they are sorry for your loss and leave the house,
I ask mommy again what is wrong,
She tells me about Daddy,
She said Daddy is spending Christmas in Vietnam,
Will he be back tomorrow,
No he won't, not tomorrow, not the next day, not in a year,
Daddy had to go away,
Is he ok,
Mommy hugs me and sobs while I sob with her,
Good bye daddy I love you, Merry Christmas...

This poem makesd me very sad but gives me something to relate to. You did a great job at catching the mood and attention. The excitement the sorrow.
