Cold Words

As I round the corner of the halls,
I hear the popular group talking,
My feet stop right in their tracks,
And I move so I will not be seen.

My breathing becomes quiet,
As my ears listen attentively,
They are laughing at someone,
But who are they doing it to?

Then I hear my name said in disgust,
And my mouth drops open in shock,
What have I ever done to them,
Do they really think I deserve this?

"You know what I heard about her?"
Oh, no this can't be happening,
"She seriously did that? What a jerk!"
Why can't they stop telling rumors?

Anger and hurt rush through my body,
And my face becomes a flushed red,
They think anyone who isn't like them,
Has no importance whatsoever.

"She has to be the ugliest girl alive,"
My heart becomes wounded,
"Why is she here? She is so worthless!"
My breathing almost stops.

Their mean words stab and pierce my heart,
But I know what they say isn't at all true,
How can words have such a horrible affect,
And make you feel like a speck of dust?

I need to escape this horrible nightmare,
Before I hear them say any worse,
I have to run away this second,
Away from their cold words.
