I Don't Do Goodbyes

by Catherine   May 31, 2004

I don't do goodbyes
They never worked for me
The sadness is just too much
Through teary eyes, I cannot see
We make believe it's not happening
Till the day it must be true
I don't do goodbyes
But one is long overdue
The little girl is standing
Over there, by her momma's side
Momma says, "I don't do goodbyes."
But the little girl can see right through her eyes
Momma wants to tear up
To kiss her man on the cheeck
Just one last time
Before he's buried beneath
The little girl nudges her momma's bigger side
"Momma kiss Daddy, please Momma don't you cry."
Momma looks over, gives the little girl a glance
"If I could baby I would, I know I'll never have another chance."
The little girl looks once again, straight in those eyes
"Momma I believe in you,
Daddy would want this too,
Momma go ahead, please do
Say a goodbye just for me."
Mom ma couldn't hold back any longer
She let out one big sigh
"Goodbye, my love, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye."
