Ah Life

by Sean Allen   May 31, 2004

The spinning
Twirling
Neurotic impromptu
Dance without steps
The black and white photo
a humming bird
See it flutter?
The golden splendor
A symphony
Never only of the ears
C flat chords look green
And feel rough
The crowded street!
No one there but you
Which path can you take,
When there are no signs
Fine auburn honey
Dripping, flowing
Gray bread

For a lesser light once inquired
Why is there
Pain with pleasure
O Glory!
O Glory!
What is life without death
For contrast?
Can you be happy without the sad?
Ah! The mediocrity of a perfect life
O science, take notes
Nature abhors something much more
Than a simple vacuum
Can you see mediocrity anywhere else
Other than in the world
We have made
With sinful hands?

After i used my dictionary to find out what some words meant, i smiled. One of the themes of this poem seens to be how we tend to complicate simple things and so when i realized Sean purposely tried to complicate his poem to personify his point, i smiled.
