Homeless Story

by Kik   Jun 26, 2008

Walking down the street one day,
And a homeless man sat down to pray,
I went up to him and said "Good day",
He rushed from the ground and looked around,
Drunk from the liquor he just drank,
Enough liquor to fill a Semi's tank,
He gazed in a daze at me and had me in a phase,
A phase of pity for this man,
I wanted to do what I can,
So I gave him five dollars from my pocket,
He began to cry and show me this locket,
It hung from his neck, Silver like a sprocket,
He stared at me and told me a story,
A story I want to tell and spread,
This is what the homeless man said,
"I once had a high pay job,
I was successful in life,
My name is Robert but call me Bob,
I had a beautiful wife,
And a wonderful daughter,
Made honor roll at school every year,
My wife was just so dear,
She meant the world to me,
I loved her so much,
But then came the fatal day,
It had me crying like such,
Both her and my daughter,
Were victims of slaughter,
I was to busy working to bother,
Then I had phone call,
At least that's what I recall,
My memory ruined from the alcohol,
After I settled from the deaths,
I began to not want to breathe breaths,
I substituted my wife so dear,
With tons of liquor and beer,
I substituted my wonderful girl,
For more alcohol to let my anger unfurl,
Eventually I lost my job on top of that,
Due to this drinking habit,
I'm sorry to bother you sir,
But if you have anything to offer,
Can I have it?"
I stared deep to his eyes,
Normally I would despise,
But he wasn't normal,
Maybe he was trying to tell me something,
Maybe this homeless man was informal,
I gave him all my change,
Emptied out my wallet,
And then gave him a ride,
Bought him some clothes,
Dropped him off at a shelter,
What he is doing now,
God only knows,
It just made me wonder,
You really can't judge a book by its cover...
