A Life in Parenthesis: Spill It All

by EssenceOfLace   Jun 26, 2008

*Poem for a club contest in which you must write your story of life in a poem. A spill it all contest*

This poem is dedicated to my mom who has been there for me through it all.

"A Life in Parenthesis: Spill It All"

(There I Was)
Don't Dream too high little girl;
You'll hit the ground harder when you fail.

(Age 5)
Candy colored glitter
and dolls to play out the fairy tales;
Cinderella was my favorite.

(Age 7)
So young and naive.
I'd believe anything.

(Age 10)
Friends came easily,
but seemed lost quicker than they came.

(Age 12)
Stop! I don't want this!
Too many drinks to hear the "NO" I scream.

(Age 14)
Pills, pot, tequila shots,
vodka, sex, music, and rage.
I'm out of control.

(Age 15)
There, walking into my life
is the Prince to my Cinderella.

It all disappeared.
Intoxication is not needed with your love.

(Age 16)
Here I sit in pain.
Doctors don't know why.
I've lost my will, my life.

(Age 17)
A new year has begun.
Hopes are getting larger.
With every breath of you I am refreshed.

Get ready for a new beginning.
I have become stronger with the past.
I soon enter a new world, a new reality.

(Here I Am)
No longer a little girl.
I'll dream as high as I want
for you are the wings the help me fly.

------------------------------------------

I'm sure none of you will have a problem deciphering this, but if you do, let me know and I will explain.

Very well done and insightful. I love reading your stuff. You seem to have gone through many more stages of life a lot earlier than most. I know most of your poems haven't been about you but this one seems to be. Although I love your other poems this one means a little more to me. Keep up the great work.
