Steven's Poem

by Crippled Wing   Jun 26, 2008

As I walked down that snowy road
I looked off to the distance
at the cemetery as the wind blowed
I saw a tall shadowy figure standing
in the middle of this dark street
I could feel the deepness of my heartbeat
At first I couldn't see his face
I walked faster and faster
to this person I was about to embrace
finely I got close enough to see...
yet the face I saw I still couldn't believe
...because it was Steve

A tear ran down my face
as he reached out his hand
and at that moment
....time stood still
you couldn't even feel the snow's chill
I grabbed his hand
almost unable to stand
it was like I was holding onto air
but the warmth from his hand
you still could feel...I swear

I asked him why he left
he told me he had to go
I still was asking why
because I wanted to know
he said even if he told me
I wouldn't yet understand
for what God had planned

He then told me
to be there for his family
and that it was OK to cry
...but not to say goodbye
because he's still here
and he will always be near
so don't be sad for me
because now I'm happy and free

He continued on saying
To never quit praying
And to love like tomorrow
is never going to come
because it might not...for some

....and with that said he slowly disappeared
in the blowing snow.....
.....as if he was never even there
I cried out his name with no answer to be heard
so there I was standing alone with the cold blowing air
with so many questions left unanswered
but yet the words he had told me left me reassured
