A Slow Day

by adroit   Jun 28, 2008

Morning bleeds into the sky
No vibrant hues, just a shade of gray
Boredom gurgles slowly to the surface
Eating slowly away at consciousness
Stagnant words and spoiled quiet
Everything seems ever so pointless
Restless steps, back and forth down a dark hallway
Troubled frowns and hollow laughter
Irritating the eyes and ears
Words trickle across yellowed pages
Clocks tick, hammering into the long-acquired silence
Shadows crouch in corners
Offering no serenity or cool reprieve
The sun beats down outside the window
Dry grass crunches beneath travel-worn feet
A slow day crawls by, drawing out the syllables
Crooning out a song that nobody wants to hear
