Did I Do This?

by Disasterpiece   Jun 30, 2008

I walk down the empty street
Barren and desolate now
Nothing remains of what this place once was
My footsteps create a rhythmic tune
Did I do this?
I see a starving dog wandering vacantly down the road
Its master is long gone, its days are numbered
Did I do this?
A pitiful child's cries rise up from somewhere among the rubble, crying for his family
Did I do this?
Bullets holes in houses
Houses that were homes
Did I do this?
Was it me who destroyed these lives?
Ripped apart these families?
Did I do this?
It dawns on me now, I have taken lives, husbands, sons, fathers, uncles, cousins
I have taken them from their families
Unbelievable
Did I do this?
Did I really do this?
