My little black friend

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   Jun 30, 2008

My little black friend
He's my little black friend, so small and serene
Seldom makes any noise, always there to be seen
Always keen and eager and he'll please for a treat
And if no attention, he's quite content at my feet

Love in abundance he's ready to give
All that he asks is a small place to live
A good sense of humour he often reveals
Especially when confronted with some dastardly meal

As big as I am he's always ready to my defence
With sharp fangs bared, at any offence
But a very fine fellow and a wonderful chap
When he's growled by mistake he sure knows that

No harm meant and no damage done
Didn't mean to offend, lets shake on it son
This is his job it's what he does
He asks for nothing he does it for love

No hunter or retriever or any such bog
He'd look sort of like Arnie if he were a dog
All muscle and sinew from tail to toe
But more gentle a friend, you'll never know

In case you were wondering Gadgets his name
And a very fine friend, if it's all the same
One day when he passes, don't know what I'll do
But until then, I'll look after him too

I had a doggie and I loved him so. I know the feeling...they are so adorable and some of them have so good nature.. All they ask is a little care taking... And dogs give so much back..

When you go back home...there they are...wagging their tale...showing love... You are sitting on the sofa...and their wet nose is looking for your hand...

This poem touched me and let me miss our doggie who past away 5 years ago.

    Beautiful and respectfully written, Grant.
