The search for perfection

How can we slow down this addiction?
This addiction for perfection.
We don't so much care to be the best.
Only to make our selfs stand from the rest.

Not so much because we want to achieve more.
We just want to have what we adore.
We want the perfect body so we can catch a perfect mate.
Yet we always find ourselves a moment too late.

We want to stand out in everyday life
Only to land a perfect husband or wife.
We finally learn that it is just not possible.
We then take the first one that's available.

Later we see that love does not grow with time.
It only causes our soul to suffer for our crime.
If the heart never had a role in our choice of mate,
Sooner or later we would have to separate.

It's not so much that we made the wrong decision.
It's because we never stop the comparison.
We always compare them to others we fell in love with.
We forget that the other love was only a myth.

Some blame it all on today's sexuality.
I say that's not based in reality.
We just have dreamed up an image of a perfect relationship.
The type you can only get with an acid trip.

We forgot how to find true beauty in its true form.
The type of beauty that has the power to transform.
Beauty is truly everywhere.
We just need to take the time to care.

What ever happened to accepting fate.
Learning to love life without debate.
Life today has certain standards in store.
The type of standards that everyone should ignore.

Not to say that I'm not guilty in any way.
I just hate myself each and everyday.
Wishing I can persuade my heart to understand.
That it's not possible to meet such a demand.
