What Makes a Friend?

Whenever you've been thoughtful, concerned,
And gently caring, trusting and accepting, really
Eager in your sharing.
Especially warm and generous,
With help and time you spend,
Whenever you've been giving
Then you've truly been a friend.
Whenever you've been ready with
A word of hope and cheer,
More than glad to listen,
To stand by and just be near,
Patient, kind, and faithful,
Understanding to the end,
Whenever you've been loving
Then you've truly been a friend.
Whenever I've needed a friend to be near,
To brighten my day with a warm touch of cheer,
A friend who would smile, share my world for awhile
I've always depended on you
And anytime you ever need a real friend with
Comfort to offer, or help to extend, a friend
Who will care, who will simply be there
I hope you'll depend on me too.
