The bereavement

by andhereIstand   Jul 2, 2008

Tears stream
down her face
as she looks
into his eyes
for one more
moment
before
they close
forever
and he is gone.

from his hand
falls a crumpled
piece of paper
and she reads it
as her heart breaks
and falls all over
the floor.

"darling I didn't want to
But you know I had to
I'll be waiting for you
to come make them
let me in.

"I didn't meant o hurt you
didn't meant o make you cry
but I'm not going to lie to you
it was best that I die.

"no you didn't see it coming
no don't blame yourself
you didn't pull the trigger
hold the knife,
you didn't make therope
that took me from your life.

" I just couldn't take the pain
of hurting you again
so I came to this conclusion
and wrote this with your pen.

"I wanted to give it to you myself
but I couldn't bear to see your face
so I got in my ford
ad drove to our special place.

" didn't know what would happen next
couldn't imagine it ending this way.
I didn't want you by my side
I just wanted to be alone
and wash away with the tide.

"But I just wanted to sy
always remember that I am here
watching over you
from above in the sky
clear blue"

the letter ended
his coily writing,
a blur
of fallen tears
as she picked up his pocketknife
and looked at her reflection
in the blade.
she carves in her arm
" I'll never forget you"
and throws it
blade first
into
the
thick wooden fence
and the crash
reverberates
in her mind
and the empty
beach parking lot.

she pulls his body
to the shore
ets him
wash away with the tide
and once he is
onyl far enough
so it is up to her neck
she runs in after him
swallowing
salty water and tears
as she battles wave after wave
she grabs up his limp body
and holds it
until
she can breath
no more.
