Lovely Nightmare

by StandStill   Jul 4, 2008

Once upon a midnight dream,
I kissed that bitter-sweet smile.
The city glowed in the starlight's tears,
and you held me for a little while.

Heavy perfume of the summer's air
clung to every beat of a healing heart.
Your hand in mine, the mesa bright,
and in your arms, i fell apart.

You whispered sweet nothings into my ears,
telling me of my non-existant loveliness.
My God, i felt so safe right then,
darling, love is what i shall confess.

But the moon showed her face from behind the clouds,
and I looked up into your beautiful eyes
only to find that there was nothing there
and everything you said was a lie.

I'm quite sure your mouth twisted into something ugly,
but I was too distracted by the sound.
Look out across the mesa, dear,
and you see the perfect city's burning down.

**I think this is what I dreamed. I don't remember all of it. But I DO remember who the dream was about, and it's not who you think.**
